MCEA Endorses Hrant Jamgochian for Delegate; Cites “Policy Background and Insight”
Bethesda, MD – Late Tuesday, the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) announced its endorsement of Hrant Jamgochian for District 16 Delegate. This is the second major organizational endorsement of non-incumbents during this campaign cycle, and is considered one of the most important endorsements for Montgomery County candidates.
“MCEA is recommending Hrant Jamgochian to fill the vacant seat in District 16. MCEA’s interview team was impressed by Mr. Jamgochian’s policy background and insight. His record of community involvement has prepared him well for public service.”
The MCEA endorsement is the latest in a series of strong showings for the Jamgochian campaign, which also earned the endorsement of the Sierra Club earlier this year. During Jamgochian’s previous candidacy for District 16 Delegate, he secured the endorsements of both the Washington Post and the Gazette. Jamgochian hopes to combine his extensive public policy expertise with a strong grassroots campaign to maintain his momentum through the June 24 primary.
“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the Montgomery County Education Association. One of the main reasons I moved to Bethesda with my wife more than a decade ago, was the outstanding public education available to everyone,” said Hrant Jamgochian. “That said, we currently have significant overcrowding in our schools along with a growing achievement gap, not to mention the continued income inequality and challenges to health access, which also directly impact a student’s chance at success. As a result, I look forward to working with MCEA on these and other critical issues, so that our teachers can focus on providing the best possible education to our children.”
