Jamgochian has filed for candidacy, hired staff and begun fundraising in aggressive early campaign push

Bethesda, MD – Today Hrant Jamgochian announced his candidacy for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 16 to an over-capacity crowd of roughly 100 enthusiastic supporters. A lifetime healthcare and community advocate, in 2010 Jamgochian was a candidate for District 16 Delegate. Despite his late entry into the race, Jamgochian secured the c\oveted endorsements of both The Washington Post and The Gazette, finishing as a close runner up.

“This race is about how we can work together to improve our health, education and economy. It’s about those of us who are struggling to ensure high quality care for loved ones, like I am with my grandmother,” said Jamgochian. “This election is about so many of our neighbors, who are now telling their children that they cannot afford to send them to the college of their choice, despite working hard and saving for nearly two decades. Together we can do better.”

Jamgochian, named for his grandfather who escaped the Armenian Genocide, continues to work tirelessly for patient access to care. Jamgochian is an attorney with nearly 20 years of public policy experience. He currently serves as the Executive Director for Dialysis Patient Citizens, a patient advocacy organization working to improve the quality of life for some of America’s most vulnerable citizens.

“If constituents are looking for a candidate who is authentic, genuine and truly cares about people – then Hrant is your guy,” said Eric Edwards, a dialysis patient who flew from Atlanta to show his support. Edwards is among several high-profile patient advocates supporting Jamgochian, a list that includes Stacey Stewart, Bethesda resident and U.S. President for United Way Worldwide.Jamgochian has been widely acknowledged for already having assembled a professional campaign team and lining up early support from local Democratic Party officials and elected Democrats.
