“Fairness for all Marylanders” rally in Annapolis.

Hrant believes that everyone deserves to live full, healthy lives free of discrimination.

Equality for all Marylanders remains a passion for Hrant. As a vocal proponent of Marriage Equality (Question 6), Hrant actively fought for the right of LGBT families across the state to enjoy the same legal protections and benefits as their straight allies. Through his work as executive director for Dialysis Patient Citizens, he helped secure passage of the HIV Positive Organ Transplantation (HOPE) Act late last year, which ended the ban on organ donations between HIV positive patients, ensuring patients in need are able to enjoy the quality of life they deserve. As your Delegate, Hrant will prioritize:

Adding “gender identity or expression” to Maryland’s anti-discrimination law

Transgender Marylanders face discrimination every day for simply being who they are, preventing many from enjoying full lives. Hrant believes that people should not face adverse job actions, denial for housing and credit services, or harassment in public places such as restaurants, stores and movie theaters based on their gender identity or expression. He continues to be a vocal supporter calling for passage of “Fairness for All Marylanders,” attending rallies and speaking with his friends in the General Assembly about this important legislation. Hrant believes passage of this bill will ensure Maryland is a welcoming place for all.

Ensure all Marylanders have access to affordable healthcare

Hrant believes that every citizen has the right to enjoy a full, healthy life. During his twenty years of advocacy efforts, Hrant has fought and secured passage of critical legislation to increase patient access, such as the HIV Positive Organ Transplantation (HOPE) Act which ended the ban on organ donations between HIV positive patients. As Delegate, Hrant hopes to ensure life-saving medications are made more affordable by securing much needed funding to important programs like The Maryland AIDS Drug Assistance Program (MADAP).

Supporting the rights of loving LGBT adults to adopt or serve as foster parents

There are thousands of children in Maryland’s foster care system awaiting adoption. Hrant supports the right of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered adults to adopt children and serve as foster parents. He is also a strong proponent of making sure every Maryland parent is able to take the necessary time off to care for a sick child or loved one without fear of retaliation from their employers.
