SEIU Endorses Hrant Jamgochian for Delegate

Cites “Long Personal and Professional Record, Shared Dedication”

Bethesda, MD – Earlier today SEIU Local 500 announced its endorsement of Hrant Jamgochian for District 16 Delegate. SEIU Local 500 represents over 20,000 workers across the region, including Supporting Services Employees in Montgomery County Public Schools, Part-Time Faculty at Montgomery College and Maryland Family Child Care Providers.

“One of the most important responsibilities of any public official is to make sure that the most vulnerable members of our community are not left behind.  Hrant did not wait until he was a candidate for public office, but has a long personal and professional record of standing up for our most vulnerable,” said SEIU Local 500 President Merle Cuttitta.  “Local 500 members get up every day and work with children, students and people with developmental disabilities and they look for someone like Hrant Jamgochian, who shares their dedication.”

The SEIU endorsement is the latest in a series of strong showings for the Jamgochian campaign, which also earned the endorsement of the Maryland Sierra Club, Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA), CASA in Action and Progressive Neighbors.  During Jamgochian’s previous candidacy for District 16 Delegate, he secured the endorsements of both the Washington Post and the Gazette.  Jamgochian hopes to combine his extensive public policy expertise with a strong grassroots campaign to maintain his momentum through the June 24 primary.

“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of SEIU,” said Hrant Jamgochian. “One of the cornerstones of my campaign is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to earn a good living.  It is unconscionable that so many Maryland families have to decide between paying the electric bill and putting food on the table.  As Delegate, I hope to strengthen our middle class while creating financial stability for all Marylanders.”

On Friday, April 18, lawn signs were stolen from in front of Hrant Jamgochian’s home. No other lawn signs were missing at the time. While the stolen signs were replaced, the new lawn signs were torn in half and the wire frames mangled the following evening. The destroyed signs were left in front of Hrant’s home for his family to see on Easter morning. That same evening several additional lawn signs with Hrant Jamgochian’s name on it were destroyed or removed in front of his neighbor’s homes on Bradley Boulevard. None of the other candidates for District 16 Delegate appear to have any lawn signs missing or damaged. Since the culprit also appeared to be sending the message that he/she knows where Hrant lives, law enforcement has been notified and is looking into the matter.

Statement from Jamgochian campaign: “Hrant, his wife Lenna and their 8 month old child will not be bullied or intimidated by such violent and cowardly acts. Hrant is running for office because he wants: everyone to have access to high quality, affordable healthcare; all of our children have the chance at a good education; and everybody to have the opportunity to earn a good living. Hrant is running a positive, issues based campaign that reflects the best in the Democratic Party. He will continue to work hard to ensure his message gets out, even if there are those who would threaten his family and their wellbeing.”

State and County Officials Endorse Hrant Jamgochian for Delegate

Emphasize His Extensive Health Policy Expertise

Bethesda, MD – The Jamgochian Campaign announced the endorsement of two new high profile supporters today.  Maryland Delegate Jeff Waldstreicher of neighboring District 18 gave his endorsement to Hrant Jamgochian, citing his extensive health policy expertise and advocacy of those in need.

“I am pleased to endorse Hrant Jamgochian for District 16 Delegate.  Hrant brings extensive health policy expertise, which is absolutely critical as our state legislature tackles increasingly complex issues to help improve the health of all Marylanders,” said District 18 Delegate Jeff Waldstreicher.  “As the executive director of a national patient advocacy organization, Hrant remains a leading voice for some of the most vulnerable members in our community.  I look forward to working with Hrant to ensure all Marylanders have access to high quality, affordable health care.”

Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal, who serves as Chairman of the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee, noted Jamgochian’s long career in health policy as well as his ability to build alliances in his endorsement.

“We need state legislators who will work hard and defend Montgomery County’s interests,” said County Councilmember George Leventhal.  “Hrant has shown a strong interest in health policy, an area where our county needs a much stronger partnership with the state.  Hrant has the attitude and personality that will enable him to build coalitions and alliances that will advance Montgomery County’s agenda.”

Both Waldstreicher and Leventhal join the ranks of several high profile Jamgochian supporters, including US Congressman and Ranking Member of the House Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee Frank Pallone, as well as former Maryland Democratic Party Chairs Susan Turnbull and Terry Lierman.   A complete list of Jamgochian’s endorsements is available at: www.gojamgo.org/endorsements/

MCEA Endorses Hrant Jamgochian for Delegate; Cites “Policy Background and Insight”

Bethesda, MD – Late Tuesday, the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) announced its endorsement of Hrant Jamgochian for District 16 Delegate. This is the second major organizational endorsement of non-incumbents during this campaign cycle, and is considered one of the most important endorsements for Montgomery County candidates.

“MCEA is recommending Hrant Jamgochian to fill the vacant seat in District 16.  MCEA’s interview team was impressed by Mr. Jamgochian’s policy background and insight.  His record of community involvement has prepared him well for public service.”

The MCEA endorsement is the latest in a series of strong showings for the Jamgochian campaign, which also earned the endorsement of the Sierra Club earlier this year.  During Jamgochian’s previous candidacy for District 16 Delegate, he secured the endorsements of both the Washington Post and the Gazette.  Jamgochian hopes to combine his extensive public policy expertise with a strong grassroots campaign to maintain his momentum through the June 24 primary.

“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the Montgomery County Education Association. One of the main reasons I moved to Bethesda with my wife more than a decade ago, was the outstanding public education available to everyone,” said Hrant Jamgochian. “That said, we currently have significant overcrowding in our schools along with a growing achievement gap, not to mention the continued income inequality and challenges to health access, which also directly impact a student’s chance at success. As a result, I look forward to working with MCEA on these and other critical issues, so that our teachers can focus on providing the best possible education to our children.”

    Sierra Club Endorses Hrant Jamgochian for District 16 Delegate;
Cites “Long History Working to Activate the Grassroots for the Environment”

Bethesda, MD – On Saturday, the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Hrant Jamgochian for District 16 Delegate. Theirs is the first major organizational endorsement of non-incumbents this campaign cycle, and widely seen as one of the most important endorsements for Montgomery County candidates.  In its decision to endorse Jamgochian, the Sierra Club cited his extensive environmental experience and dedication to tackling Maryland’s pressing environmental issues.

“Hrant Jamgochian has a long history working to activate the grassroots for the environment,” said Betsy Johnson, Political Chair of Sierra Club Maryland.  “As a grassroots organization, and one that Hrant has served honorably, we look forward to working with him in Annapolis on issues of great concern to our state and country.  Issues like addressing climate change, improving our water supply, and containing growth through smart transportation choices.”

The Sierra Club endorsement is the latest in a series of strong showings for the Jamgochian campaign, coming barely a week after campaign finance reports show Jamgochian with a significant resource advantage in the race.

Jamgochian began his professional career working on environmental campaigns across the country, and continues to remain active on environmental issues.  He is a Life Member of the Sierra Club, recently serving on the Executive Committee for the Montgomery County Sierra Club.
